Cubs, Prior Avoid Arbitration
2007-01-31 15:05
by Phil Bencomo

Prior will make a base salary of $3,575,000, down from $3.65 million last season, but he can earn another $300,000 if he reaches 30 starts.

Any predictions for Prior's 2007 season?

Here's mine: 24 games, 10-6 record, 4.00 ERA.

So he'll get roughly $100,000 per inning pitched.

Will there be any posts about the Cliff Floyd deal? I have stronger feelings regarding that.

If Phil is right about Prior's stats I should block out my early October schedule.

Ken is obviously a Will Carroll groupie.

That's an odd line, no? I think most starters have decisions in over half their games. And, at 5.37, he's not pitching particularly well, so you'd expect him to be taking more losses.

I am a Will Carroll groupie, yes, but that's not why I wrote those stats. I have no recollection of any predictions from Will about Prior's chances this season.

I just figured the Cubs fans would probably be overly optimistic, so I went the other way to give myself better odds at winning.
