The Storm Has Passed Over

Everybody all right?

Thankfully, we got through the storms without any basement flooding or damage to the house. But funnel clouds were spotted in the area, the retention ponds could retain no more, the cul-de-sac across the street filled with so much water that mailboxes were half-submerged by the evening, and the local pond rose several feet and spilled out into the neighboring park.

How was it throughout the rest of the area?

We had a transformer explode at 2 in the morning and were without power for a while. My wife was driving over to her mother's yesterday and saw a funnel cloud overhead. One guy didn't come into work today because his sister down the block had her house burn down from a downed live wire.

You know what I find funny though, on the news pretty much all of the reports were from Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Des Plaines, and Glenview, it's like there was nothing wrong south of the Loop, absolutely ridiculous.

No problems here, but then, I'm on the second floor of a converted apartment building. However, my unit at work just moved to the 12th floor of a 30-odd floor building, and when the big stuff came through around 3:30-45, I could feel the building sway with the wind. That, and a lawn chair from the roof of one of the nearby condo buildings flew across the street, probably half a block or so, and nearly put a whole in the glass roof of our lobby.

Here in NY, retention ponds are called "basement apartments". I have one, looks like I'll have to check on it soon >;'
