Perhaps today is the end, perhaps the beginning, or even something in between. No matter what, it's baseball, and you know, things could be worse, so we may as well enjoy it.

if anything I at least want the Cubbies to go down fighting, but I really want them to win it all in 5

don't tell anyone on the Toaster, but Cal, Granderson, and Thomas are talking about the bunt

2 I heard that.
2007-10-06 15:07:45
4.   KG16
That is not a very good start for the Cubs.

4 Not at all.

everyone one still watching college football?

7.   Phil Bencomo
We're really going to need some offense tonight.

Lou's not messing around: The bullpen springs to life.

I sense another long game...

Never good to give up two in the top of the first, but mark my words: two runs won't win this thing.
2007-10-06 15:24:51
11.   sporky
1 single, 1 double, 1 HR, a HBP and only 2 runs? Whew.
2007-10-06 15:28:01
12.   KG16
is it just me, or has this ump been rather inconsistent with his call?
2007-10-06 15:28:06
13.   Phil Bencomo
A leadoff walk? Can this really be Soriano?
2007-10-06 15:32:04
14.   Bluebleeder87
the Cubbies need to be patient & wait for there pitch against Livan Hernandez.
2007-10-06 15:35:09
15.   Phil Bencomo
12 I'm with you.

It's looking more and more like pinning down what the zone is today is going to be a completely impossible task.

So, poll of the crowd: are the Cubs playing really tight, or does it just feel that way to me because I'm so uptight?
2007-10-06 15:48:57
18.   trainwreck
I think Hill is pitching really tight.
2007-10-06 15:51:14
19.   Sam DC
Um, doesn't Drew have to actually come within a foot of second base to get an out there?
2007-10-06 15:51:58
20.   Sam DC
Livan doesn't look tight.

He never looks tight.

2007-10-06 15:53:16
21.   KG16
17 - I don't think they're playing tight, but I haven't really seem them (stupid unbalanced schedule). I think it's a combination of an erratic strike zone and Hernandez pitching well in the playoffs (again)
2007-10-06 15:53:54
22.   Derek Smart
20 It's impossible to look tight when you jiggle that much.
2007-10-06 15:56:08
23.   KG16
Is Livan really only 32? I thought he was older than that, and it is hard to believe that he's already been stateside for a decade.

Lucille II is the master of that.

It is, dare I say, refreshing to see the D-Backs actually blow an opportunity.

Pedro Feliz has kidnapped Aramis Ramirez and stolen his identity.
2007-10-06 16:18:48
27.   KG16
wow, it is uncanny how Arizona is getting double plays today

Go Cubbies! Woo hoo!!!!

Hope that helps.

2007-10-06 16:19:52
29.   Derek Smart
Yeah, Aramis has had some of his worst at bats of the year during this series. The other set of appalling PAs happened in Florida while they were trying to clinch. I think he wants to be a hero waaaaaaaay too badly.
2007-10-06 16:20:56
30.   sporky
I'd rather be Alex than Aramis. Yeesh.
2007-10-06 16:37:48
31.   Bluebleeder87
the call from the umpire could have gone either way, which tells me the blues are on Zonas side, sigh!
2007-10-06 16:39:49
32.   Derek Smart
As terrible as this series has been to watch, the worst part of all this just might be the local commercials I'm forced to endure at every, single break in the action.

Either way usually means a tie, which should go to the runner.
2007-10-06 17:02:10
34.   Derek Smart
Should've known. Saving the Bartman stuff for the first time a foul ball goes over there. Here I thought they might be showing restraint.
2007-10-06 17:11:22
35.   Bluebleeder87
2 men on & only 1 out could be a key moment for the Cubbies.
2007-10-06 17:15:41
36.   Derek Smart
Now THAT was a good at bat from Aramis.
2007-10-06 17:18:22
37.   Bluebleeder87
That was ball four.
2007-10-06 17:18:38
38.   KG16
good gawd, these guys from Arizona are friggin' blessed

Oh, for heaven's sake. The Cubs deserve to lose this series from DeRosa's swing on that 3-1 count alone. That was godawful terrible.
2007-10-06 17:21:57
41.   Derek Smart
This whole thing is just excruciating.
2007-10-06 17:27:40
42.   Bluebleeder87
what a jip from DeRose, I'm sure he's feeling pretty crummy right about now, it was just un cald for...

43.   KG16
why did I think that Gibson was NLCS MVP in 88? Just regular season, then, I guess
2007-10-06 17:32:06
44.   Phil Bencomo
Just listening to Ron on the radio is painful, mostly because he's vocalizing everything we're all feeling.

Perhaps someday, centuries from now, the word "Cub" will be synonymous with one who causes pain and suffering, in the same way we use words today like "Luddite."

2007-10-06 17:48:42
45.   Derek Smart
44 I've reached the point where I can't even listen to Ron during the regular season because he's so obviously in pain whenever something bad happens. It's like listening to a bunny in a fur trap for three hours.

9th inning & Valverde coming in to close it down. ToyCannon must be pretty happy about it, he likes the D-Backs.
2007-10-06 18:30:49
47.   Phil Bencomo
Good night, folks. I'm going to sit in the corner and sulk.

like everyone else, I could go on and on complaining about the recent fiasco. I prefer to look ahead to 2008...please Derek and/or Phil, what are the club's biggest needs, what are the alternatives?

Big questions: a) Center field: Felix Pie/Jacque Jones/free agent?, b) 5th starter: Mark Prior/Sean Marshall/Kevin Hart/Angel Guzman/free agent?, c) Lefty reliever: Will Ohman/Carmen Pigniatello/free agent?

I hope Geovany Soto starting in 2008 is not even a question.

Personally I would love to see Ken Griffey Jr. finish his career with the Cubs. He would make a great #4 hitter between Lee and Ramírez.
